Saturday, Sept. 28
Update: Ocean Boulevard and the Vincent Thomas Bridge are now fully reopened after the truck accident earlier this morning. The site has been decontaminated and the Los Angeles Fire Department has successfully contained the load at another location in the Port of Los Angeles.
This Saturday morning, Sept. 28 at 7:30 a.m., the Port of Long Beach stands in solidarity with the Los Angeles Fire Department as they work to wrap up their current incident. Our team will continue to coordinate efforts and provide support as necessary.
Operations at the Port of Los Angeles hit a snag yesterday when a tractor-trailer accident caused major disruptions. The overturned container loaded with lithium iron batteries led to closures of several terminals as authorities scrambled to contain the situation. Safety is always top priority in these situations, hoping for a swift resolution and minimal impact on daily operations.
Despite the incident involving damaged lithium-ion batteries, terminals like Trapac and West Basin Container Terminal are still up and running. The quick response from firefighters ensured no injuries were reported, and they successfully managed the situation to minimize disruptions. Your safety is our top priority.
The impact of the fire reaches beyond just the refinery, with operations at nearby Port of Long Beach terminals Pier T and Pier A closed for the day shift. Thankfully, the accident site has been cleared and key roads like the Vincent Thomas Bridge are now reopened. Let’s continue to keep those affected in our thoughts during this challenging time.
